The Advantages of Using AED While Performing CPR

Add caption
If you are performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) activities to a cardiac victim then having an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator  in hand can increase your confidence and enhance the effect on the patient. Remember that once you are by the side of the patient, when no medical assistance is there, you have to continue performing every cardiac assistance technique you’ve learnt till an effective medical help comes. While serving the patient by compressing chest, breathing mouth to mouth and helping in blood circulation, you must also call out for help so that anybody can arrange a medical help so that the victim can be immediately taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Call 911 if you can manage a few seconds before performing CPR to the patient.
  • When to use Automatic Electronic Defibrillator
You must have gone through using AED in your CPR training sessions in USA. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a very significant task in saving a cardiac patient's life. However, an AED has a critical role in restoring the natural beating of the heart as well as resuming the patient's heart to beat. CPR has to be performed if the patient has become non-responsive and not breathed. In such cases, an AED treatment must be started after performing resuscitation process. If the AED fails to help the patient regain consciousness then cardiac first aid treatment should be re-administered. You may need to call any Emergency Medical Service (EMS) or 911 before conducting CPR or applying an AED.
  • Way to use an AED
First you need turn the AED on usually by pressing the ON button. In certain system, you might find a lever to give the machine a start. Before starting CPR, it is necessary to remove clothes from the patient's arms, abdomen or chest irrespective of the gender of the victim. Take caution by adding pads to naked skin on his or her chest. Ensuring to make use of the proper system for the child or adult will make the act more beneficial. Remember that using an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator on an infant will not be the right thing. Placing the left pad under the left armpit to the left nipple and the right pad under the patient’s collarbone on the right part of the chest would make the arrangement effective. It is vital to place the pads no less than one inch away from any implanted piece of equipments. Next task will be to connect the wiring. You have to assess the patient's heart beats. Remember no to touch the patient in the course of the defibrillator process. If the AED does not start automatic analysis then you must push the analyze button. You may also push the shock button if necessary.
  • Few Precautions
New AED machines usually shock once only. There are some models that shock up to three times. If the patient doesn't regain a pulse even after a shock then you must immediately start doing CPR for next two minutes. Continue CPR if a shock is not advised. Any metal or any large amount of water must not be with the patient or with the person performing CPR. Shaving the patient is also needed if Automatic Electronic Defibrillator is used.
