Facts about Tachycardia and a CPR Certification Louisville Program, KY

A cardiac arrest mainly occurs because of an abnormal heart rhythm namely Ventricular Fibrillation. The best way of handling a victim of cardiac arrest is by going for a CPR certification Louisville program. In the classes, students are imparted training in the life-saving resuscitation procedures that comprise of chest compressions and rescue breaths. Proper application of the techniques can restore the life of a victim involved in a cardiac emergency. In the classes, students are also imparted training in how to use an AED device for the process of defibrillation.

The process of defibrillation involves application of an electric shock to the chest of a victim which can normalize an abnormal heart rhythm. It is mainly a cardiac arrest caused by Ventricular Fibrillation that can be treated with an AED device, not any other heart rhythm. The device is very easy to use and itself instructs whether or not the victim requires an electric shock. AED devices are present in most public places these days like restaurants, shopping malls, etc. In the face of an out-of-hospital cardiac emergency, an individual just needs to get hold of an AED device and follow the instructions after turning it on. It can lead to the survival of a cardiac arrest victim.

Always select an accredited training center for acquiring training such as the AHA accredited CPR Louisville in Kentucky. There are courses for both healthcare as well as non-healthcare providers. At the end of the training classes, a student will be eligible for a certification after successfully passing a skills test and a written exam.

Facts about Tachycardia (Fast Heart Rate):
A heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute (BPM) in adults is called tachycardia which may depend on the age and physical condition of an individual.
There are basically three types of Tachycardias namely Atrial or Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) which is a fast heart rate that starts in the upper chambers of the heart.
Some forms are called paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (PAT) or paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT).

Who is likely to have Atrial or SVT?
        I.            SVT is the most common type of arrhythmia in children
II.            More common in women, but may occur in either sex
    III.            Anxious young people
IV.            People who are physically fatigued
      V.            People who drink large amounts of coffee (or caffeinated substances)
VI.            People who drink alcohol heavily
  VII.            People who smoke heavily

Atrial tachycardia occurs less commonly with:
        I.            Heart attack
      II.            Serious mitral valve disease
Electrical signals in the heart’s upper chambers fire abnormally, which interferes with electrical signals coming from the sinoatrial (SA) node --- the heart's natural pacemaker. A series of early beats in the atria speeds up the heart rate. The rapid heartbeat does not allow enough time for the heart to fill before it contracts which compromises blood flow to the rest of the body.

Symptoms of Atrial or SVT:
        I.            Fainting (syncope)
      II.            Lightheadedness or dizziness
III.            Rapid heartbeat or "palpitations" or fluttering feeling in chest or bounding pulse
IV.            Angina (chest pain), pressure or tightness
      V.            Shortness of breath
    VI.            Fatigue/tiredness

In extreme cases, atrial or SVT may cause:
        I.            Unconsciousness
      II.            Cardiac arrest
