Deaths due
to a sudden cardiac arrest are on an all-time high. No one can predict its
occurrence. All one can do is stay prepared in dealing with such
life-threatening emergencies efficiently. A cardiac arrest sees no age or sex
before striking and a victim would require immediate treatment for survival.
The only appropriate form of treatment in this regard is the proper application
of the life-saving CPR techniques that comprises chest compressions and rescue
breaths.
Being a
resident of the Louisville region in Kentucky, you can sign up for a program at
the AHA accredited CPR Louisville which comprises some of the most experienced
CPR instructors. There are courses for both healthcare as well as
non-healthcare providers and today our discussion will center on a Basic Life Support Louisville program.
BLS Training Classes- The first time Basic Life Support
for Healthcare Providers Class, a.k.a. BLS Class, is geared towards training
individuals currently working in healthcare or planning a career in healthcare.
In the first time BLS class, students will learn adult, child, and infant CPR.
Students will also be trained on the use of an automated external
defibrillator, or AED. Because this CPR class is for healthcare providers,
there will be added training on how to use and perform rescue breaths using a
bag valve mask. This device is found in hospitals, offices, and many other
healthcare facilities. The BLS class training concludes with time dedicated to
learning how to rescue choking infants, children, and adults. CPR Louisville
allows students plenty of hands on practice and time to master the skills of
BLS for Healthcare Providers.
This CPR
Class is for nurses, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners,
dentists, CRNAs, paramedics, EMTs, medical technicians/assistants, dental
hygienists/assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nursing
students, medical students, respiratory therapists, laboratory technicians,
radiology technicians, LPNs, anesthesiologists, dietitians, and ALL healthcare
and medically related fields.
The program
fee is $70.
It is only
timely CPR administration and defibrillation (with an AED device) which can
ensure a cardiac arrest victim’s survival.
Automated External Defibrillators- An automated external defibrillator
(AED) is a medical device designed to analyze the heart rhythm and deliver an
electric shock to victims of ventricular fibrillation to restore the heart
rhythm to normal. Ventricular fibrillation is the uncoordinated heart rhythm
most often responsible for sudden cardiac arrest.
No separate
class is required for learning the process of defibrillation as training on how
to use an AED device is imparted in the CPR classes itself.
More or less
every public place has an AED device these days so that people can get hold of
them easily thus being able to contribute towards the safety of victims
involved in cardiac emergencies.
AED’S can be found in or should be
available:
I.
AEDs
should be conveniently installed to ensure response within 3-5 minutes.
II.
Areas
where many people work closely together, such as assembly lines and office
buildings.
III.
Close
to a confined space.
IV.
Areas
where electric-powered devices are used.
V.
Outdoor
worksites where lightning may occur.
VI.
Health
units where workers may seek treatment for heart attack symptoms.
VII.
Company
fitness units and cafeterias.
VIII.
Remote
sites, such as off-shore drilling rigs, construction projects, marine vessels,
power transmission lines, and energy pipe lines.
